| Vivian Olsen, artist of wildlife, birds and landscapes, resides in Bend, Oregon. Vivian paints equally well with watercolor, oils, or pastels, her mastery of these media keeps her artwork varied and fresh. Her subjects include most large birds of the West, as well as scenes of high mountain lakes and rivers, and charming village scenes from places she has visited on painting trips.
Her most recent work, featured on this site, is divided into three galleries:
Bird Gallery, Wildlife Gallery, and Landscape Gallery. Prior works can be view in the Archives. All works are originals. |

| People going about their life are always fascinating.
Often you may relate to their activities. Sometimes they trigger a thought from your past. Usually, each time you look at them, you will see something different.
With these paintings I continue my basic explorations into the interactions between ordinary people in everyday settings. They are part of my figurative Contemporary Social Realism series.
Many Social Realism paintings, like mine, were bright and colorful, drawing in the viewer with their vibrancy. My paintings follow a more contemporary trend, where in the last decade the movement is being resurrected in figurative scenes.
My paintings are found in many private and corporate collections, and collected internationally. |

| Once upon a time, the Living Artist Gallery was a retail art space for emerging, under represented and or controversial artists. We were located in the city of Bellevue, WA. It was a great time for all, but times change. Bellevue became too cost prohibitive for the group so we each ventured our own way. the Living Artist Gallery is now the personal Website of G. L. Handon; that's me - the sole survivor and founder.
Here you will find samples of some of my paintings, graphics, illustrations and other artistic creations. Until recently, most would consider me a painter using traditional media. However, with the advent of digital painting tools, I find myself delving deeper into the digital art realm. That's not to say I've given up getting paint on my clothing - I'm just expanding and exploring. Hopefully you'll find something of interest to you within my growing portfolio. |

| I am not one of "those" people who knew as a child she was going to grow up to be an artist. I did not learn to draw at an early age. Truth be told, I don't draw really well today. Color seems to be my gift. Nevertheless, becoming an artist is a dream come true for me, even if the most recent among many other realized dreams... like having a family, raising and training my own horses, living "out West," traveling to exotic places and spending gobs of time in Hawaii. |

| When asked what I paint by some one who doesn't know my work I reply "Always the same thing, light, colour, design and depth." Part of me is always on the watch in my everyday life for significant juxtopositions of these elements and the influence of them in or on human emotion or understanding.
Some ideas take time and thought to mature. Subject matter and the techniques used vary considerably but all grow from the same base.
Many of my images have a sense of expectancy in them, a tendency to the surreal. In an overwhelmingly technical and faceless world, the response I hope for is emotional and soulful
To this end I am a painter in oil because of the richness and depth of colour and tone one can achieve; but I have used and loved watercolour and simple drawing in graphite and conte crayon. |
